JC Penney has created a unique take on QR codes for their holiday gifting season. When you purchase a from the store, you receive a Santa Tag which has an accompanying QR code. When you scan the code you can then record a personalized voice message for the recipient of your gift. Once done, you just stick the QR code onto the gift wrapped package and hand it over!
I like the idea of modern personalization of gifts and QR codes are fun. Not sure whether they will continue this Tag idea post holiday, but I could see it living through and just becoming a branded part of JC Penney gifting offers. You can start collecting tags in-store November 15th. I hope someone gives me a gift with one :)
